BGCPBC WINNER FOR YOUTH OF THE YEAR 2009
Boys & Girls Club of Riviera Beach – Raykea Saunders maintains a 3.5 average in her advanced placement courses at Suncoast High School. She was awarded the Youth Volunteer of the Year from BGC of Riviera Beach where she has been a member for eight years. Her passion is dancing, and she has turned this passion into a vehicle for helping others. She has organized and choreographed a dance program for the Club as well as participating in church and school dance groups. Raykea is a Chargerette in the Charger Sonic Sound Marching Band. Her goal is to attend Bethune College and major in Dance.
Club Winners:
Naoma Donnelley Haggin Boys & Girls Club – Deirdre Bates attends Atlantic High School and maintains a B+ average while being actively involved in her community. She volunteers at her church and Palm Beach County Head Start in Delray Beach. She participates in student government and Powder Puff Football and has attended the Boys & Girls Club in Delray for eight years. Her goal is to attend FAMU and become a pharmacist.
Florence De George Boys & Girls Club – Darron Scott is a sophomore at Palm Beach Lakes High School with a 2.9 average. He plays percussion in his high school marching band as well as serving in his church choir. He has been an active participant in the FDG Boys & Girls Club for ten years, recently being chosen to be President of Smart Leaders. Darron also enjoys being an assistant coach for flag football and basketball at the club.
West Palm Beach Boys & Girls Club – Symone Ellis maintains a 2.7 average at Palm Beach Lakes High School while being actively involved in her church and the WPB Boys & Girls Club. Symone has demonstrated leadership qualities as a camp counselor and front desk assistant at the Club. Her goal is to attend college and become a child psychologist.
Boys & Girls Club of Belle Glade Teen Center – Delbert Clarke attends Glades Central High School and has been a member of the Boys & Girls Club in the Glades for ten years. He is an involved participant in the community. Delbert assists the “Lighthouse Café” in preparing and serving food to the homeless and needy. He also is a member of the Jr. NAACP and assists with weekly Bible lessons at his church.
