The 28th Annual Wellington Boys & Girls Club Golf Classic

BOYS & GIRLS CLUB of WELLINGTON TEES OFF FOR 28th YEAR

WEST PALM BEACH (December 2, 2009) – The 28th Annual Wellington Boys & Girls Club Golf Classic, presented by Builtx Land Development Inc., was recently held at the Binks Forest Golf Club.  This event is the longest running golf tournament for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County.  Proceeds from the event go directly to help provide programming for more than 750 children served at the Boys & Girls Club of Wellington.

Also celebrating 28 years is tournament chairman Ed Portman, who has been organizing the event since its inception.  Joining Portman as tournament co-chairs are Pat Evans and Gary Thomas, and committee members Jim Bomar, Fernando Gonzalez, “J.R.” Reid, Woody White and Dennis Witkowski. More than 100 golfers attended the event which began at 7:30 a.m. with a putting contest and breakfast provided by Strathmore Bagels and 3G’s Deli.  Hole-in-one prizes included a Trip to the Masters courtesy of Ameriprise Financial, a Set of Taylor Made Clubs courtesy of Palm Beach Golf Center and a brand new Audi from Braman Motorcars.  During the tournament, food was provided on the course by Backstreets Bar & Grill, Carrabba’s Italian Grill and PRP Wine, along with numerous games and activities.

Immediately following the tournament was an awards ceremony, a fantastic silent auction and buffet luncheon.  During the luncheon, Wellington’s Vice Mayor, Dr. Carmine Priore presented a check for more than $9,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Wellington.

Taking home first place were William Clinkscales, Chuck Fall, Frank Ferante and Doug Santaniello. In second place was Dr. Daniel Ghiragossian, Howard Gattegno, Ken Kasten and Joe DeMino and coming in third were Peter Vitale, Jeff Vilare, Kevin Moore and Mike Moore.

Along with Builtx as the title sponsor, the Bronze sponsors included B/E Aerospace, Neal Ganon, Wellington Regional Medical Center and Zachry Industrial, Inc.  Additional sponsors included Adams, Coogler, Watson, Merkel, Barry & Kellner, P.A., Grayhills, Mohip Dental, Illustrated Properties, Independent Imaging, Julie Kime and Mobile Chiropractic.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Wellington is a safe, supervised facility for area children ages 6 to 18.  The Clubs are open after school, during the summer, and on most school holidays.  The Clubs’ activities promote health, educational, social, vocational, leadership and character development.  Plans are currently underway for a new 21,000 square foot state-of-the art facility in Wellington to replace the existing building.  This new facility will include a learning center, computer lab, arts and crafts center, game room, teen center, kitchen, and gymnasium.  For more information on the Boys & Girls Clubs, call 561-683-3287 or visit www.bgcpbc.org.
