Achievements
The
13 Boys & Girls Clubs in Palm Beach County served more than 7,500 children
between the ages of six and 18 with more than 2,500 attending daily.
Our Florence De George Boys & Girls Club received the 2008 Honor Award for Program Excellence from Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
The Clubs instituted a Family Strengthening Program, hiring family liaisons at the Clubs to increase our outreach and provide a wide array of educational and fun programming for our Club families.
The Riviera Beach Club began a teen outreach effort and increased their teen membership 100%.
On
May 30th, 2009 the Boys & Girls Clubs held the grand opening for the
Clubs’ new Rise & Shine Food Co-op, which was designed and is now being operated
by 12 teen members from the Riviera Beach and Florence De George Clubs. The
co-op, which operates out of the Florence De George Boys & Girls Club, enables
families to purchase healthy foods including fresh fruit and vegetables, meats,
non-perishable items and household cleaning products for a fraction of the
retail cost.
On May 21st, 2009 the Riviera Beach Club held the dedication and groundbreaking ceremony for a new 23,000 square foot clubhouse. Thanks to a $1.5 million donation from the Max M. & Marjorie S. Fisher Foundation, along with donations from Siro and Roberta DeGasperis, the Ruth Bitner Fisher Foundation and the William and Helen Thomas Charitable Trust and many others, the new facility is scheduled for completion by year’s end. Named The Max Boys & Girls Club, in honor of Mrs. Marjorie Fisher’s last husband Max M. Fisher, the new Club will enable us to serve hundreds of children waiting for services in a state of the art facility.
For six out of the past seven years, the Boys & Girls clubs of Palm Beach County received Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s top honors for our Comprehensive Marketing Plan at the 2009 national conference in Atlanta. The Club also received a second place award for our Special Events.
Our Naoma Donnelley Haggin Boys & Girls Club in Delray Beach received first place honors in our Palm Beach County Education Day Competition. Our Glade View Elementary Boys & Girls Club placed second and the Belle Glade Teen Center placed third. In addition, the Palm Beach County Club team placed first in the State Education Day held in Martin County.
Our 21st Century Learning Center program, which enables us to hire certified teachers and educational aides along with our traditional educational programs once again made a difference in our members’ academic success. Statistically our young people continue to stay in school longer and outperform their same school peers who do not attend the Club.
