Thanks to the lead gift from Danielle H. Moore and Lesly S. Smith, Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County set upon a path to build a new Career Readiness Teen Center in the impoverished Belle Glade community. Construction of the facility began on March 18. Thanks to the generosity of many individuals and companies, we have raised over $11 million of our $12 million capital fundraising campaign goal, which will allow for the facility to be constructed without debt to the organization. We aim to complete the campaign in 2019. The Palm Beach County Commissioners made a generous donation of land and a gymnasium, which helped make our dream a reality.
Our goal is to serve over 900 teens annually from the Glades communities, increasing our impact by over 200%. We are going to set the standard as the number one advocate for Belle Glade youth during out-of-school time. We seek to engage local youth with captivating programming so that they will choose to spend their non-school hours in a safe and supportive environment that opens their path to a productive future.
The Smith & Moore Family Teen Center will be a 13,000 square feet state-of-the-art facility that will serve as a career readiness arm of our Clubs. Glades Area teens will benefit from robust academic, social, and cultural enrichment activities. It will help to prepare the next generation to succeed in today’s competitive job market with real-world skills in graphic design, web design, animation, robotics, coding, culinary arts, performing arts, academia, filming, photography, and so much more.
